Friday Favorites!

It's that time again! Clearly, I am just going to keep copying Lauren Conrad until...forever. So here are my favorites for this week!

Favorite Bar Food:
When do nachos ever get old?
Favorite Room Scent:
My room smells like a giant cookie...I don't hate it.
Favorite Young Actor:
Daniel Radcliffe- Clearly this is inspired by the Harry Potter release today, but he also is now a star on broadway! I really want to get up to NYC to see his performance in, "How to Succeed in Business," sometime this summer!
 Favorite movie soundtrack:
Moulin Rouge- It isn't a new film, but I will forever be in love with the soundtrack. Who knew Nicole Kidman could sing?!
Favorite new trend:
I love the one nail accent! My nails are currently coral and white. :)
 Favorite Summertime Activity:
Tubing! We are going this Sunday and I'm so excited!
Group Fitness Class:
Me and Zumba actually have more of a love-hate relationship. I'm absolutely awful but I kind of like it and am determined to show up the 80 year olds who kick my butt eventually!

Plans, plans, and more plans!

Even though I still don't have the full time job on lock quite yet, I have found that I have something to do almost every weekend from now until...ETERNITY. Not that anyone probably cares about what I'm doing with my life, but I felt like writing it down, and it's my blog so I do what I want!!!!!

Sunday, July 17- Living Social Tubing Adventure, taking a bus to West Virginia for some tubing, bbq, and beer...pretty excited!

Friday, July 29- Sunday, July 31- Charlotte bound to see two of my long lost best friends Marissa and Jackie!

Thursday, August 4- Sunday, August 7- Tallahassee, FL/Bioxi, MS- to get one last use out of our Bullwinkles cards in Tallahassee, and then off to Mississippi to watch the beautiful and crazy Stacia get married!!!!!

Saturday, August 13- Tim McGraw concert

Friday, September 2- Possibly Ocean City for Labor Day work depending!

Friday, September 16- Tallahassee yet again for the OKLAHOMA GAME!!! GO NOLES!

Saturday, September 24- WMZQ Fall Fest with Brad Paisley and hopefully celebrating Anna's engagement!

I'm exhausted already!

The Best of Washington and My Ever-Changing Life Perspective

I was fortunate enough to volunteer at one of DC's biggest charity events, The Best of Washington, tonight. The event is annually hosted by Washingtonian magazine, and held at the National Building Museum on F Street, NW. I was a volunteer for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which was the charity that the proceeds benefitted this year. It was an amazing event. Not to mention I got a sampling of DC's finest culinary delights (including Georgetown Cupcake and lobster rolls of course) before my shift started! To top it all off I met some really cool people! It was definitely a worthwhile experience. Here are some pictures from the night!

One of the many open bars :)

Georgetown cupcake booth, and they gave all the volunteers a box to take home because over 100 of them got slightly smashed! YUM! Try the PB Fudge flavor if you've never had one!

BMW was a sponsor and there were cars inside and outside the building

Put put and bocce ball court, along with corn hole in the center of the floor as well

White green tea sangria that was DELICIOUS

Fancy shmancy corn on the cob

Lobster rolls! My personal highlight

The venue was beautiful

ALL READY TO CHECK THE VIP'S IN! :)
View from the VIP Lounge

Overall, it was a great night. One of the volunteers rode back on the metro with me and she is seriously one of the coolest people I've met in a long time (perhaps because she was a scorpio like me). In my eyes the night was a success. I volunteered for a great cause,  did some networking, and officially started my post-grad event portfolio.

Recently my life has been full of such ups and downs. One thing I've realized is how important it is to stay true to yourself. Don't hold back who you are because you are nervous or worried about what other people will think. If people don't like the real you they probably aren't people who belong in your life anyway. Life has a strange way of sorting itself out, so my advice for the night is don't settle for anything less than your dream. Just because things seem totally out of your reach today doesn't mean that you won't stumble into your destiny tomorrow.

Well that's enough deep insightfulness for one evening. Sleep well everyone. I know I will! :)

Airline Travel Etiquette

My travels this weekend solidified the fact that people are clueless. Here is what you need to know when you fly, which apparently is NOT common sense.

1. If you know how to read, you can use a self check-in kiosk
Don't awkwardly wait it line to make a staff member come hold your hand and walk you to the kiosk. If you have a credit card, confirmation number, flight number, a first and last name, a passport, AN IDENTITY you can check in using one of these. I HAVE FAITH IN YOU. NOW GET OUT OF MY WAY AND DO IT.

2. Going through security
It really doesn't matter what the threat level is, you can't bring liquids and you can't bring sharp objects. I'm not sure why this is a difficult concept to grasp.

AKA leave your water jugs and weapons of mass destruction at home so you don't cause me to miss my plane.

3. Don't pull up the armrest if you are sitting next to someone you don't know. I don't want to touch you. I don't know you, and you probably have some illness that I'm going to catch in 3 days anyways.
4. Keep your child under control
I always get stuck in the seat in front of or behind a little kid. Planes are confined spaces so parents can you not let them run wild, kick my seat, or pull the seat back on my lap. Your kid is like 3 feet tall, there is no necessity for that.

5. De-planing
When the seatbelt light turns off, you get up, get your stuff, and get off. DO NOT go down the aisle before the people in the aisle before you have gotten off. Slow down there hot shot, that's rude.

WELL I FEEL BETTER NOW THAT I'VE GOTTEN THAT OFF MY CHEST. There is my public service announcement for the week!

Why Being Unemployed Sucks

Instead of the fun Boston weekend catch-up, I decided to go with a whiny, dramatic, my-life-is-so-annoying post. (It's really not, but WHATEVER). It is a Monday after all.

So all I've heard since my first semester at Florida State is the FANTASTIC 99.9% job placement percentage at the legendary Dedman School if Hospitality. Am I in that lucky .01%?! I don't know, but this whole unemployed thing really bites the big one, and here's why:

1. You can't make any plans
I am a planner, hence my major/life career goal. If I have no job how am I supposed to be able to plan all these super fun adventures? Want to go to the beach Labor Day? Jason Aldean in September? THE MOON NEXT MARCH? Oh, let me just make sure I don't have to work. No big deal I'll use my paid time off. Oh wait...

2. No dinero
After the post grad cushion from my mom and grad money disappears...that's it! Trust me, it's depleting at a rapid pace. I haven't been unemployed completely since I was like 16. This is not a good thing for my shopping/travel/eating out/bar hopping habits.

3. Guilt
Of course I INSISTED that going to an in-state Virginia school was out of the question. My poor parents dished out the $30,000 tuition + facilitated my life for the past 4 years. I am so lucky to have graduated debt free, but what do I really have to show for it.

4. Awkward Bar Small Talk
This picture is irrelevant but it made me chuckle. ANWAYS, I have noticed that when you live in the DC suburbs you are surrounded by young professionals. For the most part this is great, except that being an unemployed college grad isn't exactly normal there, and I find myself defending myself constantly. "So you live in a townhouse in Arlington, but don't have a job yet?" YES...is that okay with you random stranger that I don't even want to talk to?! After awhile I just started this elaborate lie that I was an astronaut. That crashed and burned when I met an actual astronaut at the bar. Only me.

But fingers crossed, this is all FINALLY sorting itself out. I really need to be careful what I wish for. It is quite possible that pretty soon I am going to be instructing spin, working full-time, interning, event volunteering, and doing independent contracting for a separate event company. WATCH OUT REAL WORLD HERE I COME!

Friday Favorites!

This week I'm linking with my girl LC for some of my personal Friday favorites.

Favorite movie: No Strings Attached
I don't know if this movie will ever get old. Real talk, where is my Ashton Kutcher out there?!
Favorite city: New Orleans
I've been having severe NOLA withdrawals lately. The music, the food, the culture- you can't beat it.
Favorite decor accent: Hanging Lanterns
Loving anything light, subtle, earth-toned, or basically looking like it belongs in an Anthropologie display right now.
Favorite Pandora station: John Mayer
JM is the perfect summer artist. My obsession just keeps growing.
Favorite summer drink: Blue Moon Summer Honey Wheat
I'm not usually a beer girl, but Blue Moon's summer flavor hits the spot.
Favorite Magazine: Washingtonian
This magazine is my new fav, especially since it contains all the DC hotspots to add to my never ending list!
Favorite Show: The Glee Project
It's a combination of American Idol and Glee, what could be better?! These kids are so talented it's out of control.
Favorite DC Spot: Georgetown Waterfront
I want to start spending MUCH more time out here! Great drink specials, on the water, and yacht parties...count me in!
Favorite Date Activity: Movie Night In
HAHA couldn't resist this picture. But seriously, sometimes bar hopping or going out to eat can get old (plus people spending money on me makes me nervous). I love a quiet night in every once and awhile, especially on a rainy night!
Favorite Sport Season: College Football
The noles are going to be GREAT this year. I'm mildly depressed I won't be there to witness this season in full force, but counting down until homecoming!

That's all for this Friday! I'm off to galavant around Boston for the day! Post your Friday Favorites and have a great weekend everyone!

XO
